Bendas Anastasia, 13 years

Anastasia Bendas is 13 years old. Back in March 2011, her mom noticed a rib hump in Anastasia’s right side and rushed her to a doctor. The orthopedists diagnosed scoliosis. Anastasia was prescribed a four weeks treatment at the Mother and Child Center and later had another treatment at «Babii-orthopedist». She also wore a customized brace by Kiev’s «Bio» Center. None of these brought results and her condition only worsened. The scoliosis has progressed and is of 4th degree now. The curve degrees went up from 20/17 to 55/40 and keep increasing.

To help her daughter, Anastasia’s mom took her to the Moscow’s Center Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics. Due to unsuccessful results of prior treatment, the doctors recommended surgery. Anastasia’s spine is still mobile which means that surgery outcomes can be promising.

The estimated cost of operation is about 292,000 Rubles (about US $9,200). The post-operation metal brace will cost another US $10,000 (metal brace consists of metal rods that aim to fix the spine and stop the curve degrees from going up). Anastasia’s mom spent all her savings on the daughter’s treatment but is hoping to find money for a metal brace. She has no money for an operation though.
